The Kids Coulee Playground at LaCrosse’s Myrick Park is about to receive a major renovation, as it was announced during a recent groundbreaking ceremony at the park.

It’s been almost 30 years since the community worked together, donating their time and resources to build the kids play area at Myrick Park in 1994. Kids Coulee was built by over 3,700 volunteers, and it includes a variety of play structures and an amphitheater.

The overhaul of the city’s landmark playground will occur over several phases.  The first phase of the program includes existing playground restoration and updating.  The second and third phases will include construction of new features at the site.

Americon is one of 15 businesses involved in the project that are financially supporting the Kids Coulee project, which is adjacent to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.  UW-La Crosse Director of Athletics Kim Blum saw it as a great opportunity to add this project to their “Building Champions” series.

Building Champions is a program that students can actively participate in, volunteering their time on projects in the area.  The program joins forces between UW-L, the City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department, and local businesses.  Blum noted that student-athlete interest and involvement in the project shows the importance of being active in the community.

Jake Buswell, Operations Director of All American Lumber, Inc. was on hand at the groundbreaking ceremony, representing Americon Construction.   “We’re excited that we were offered the opportunity to be a part of this project,” commented Buswell.  “Kids’ Coulee Playground is such a great feature in the City of LaCrosse. This renovation is going to serve the families and children of our area for decades to come, and maintain the status of LaCrosse as a family-friendly community,” continued Buswell.

Buswell also noted that all three owners of Americon Construction are all University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse graduates, and were student athletes while enrolled.  “This is a great way for us to give back to the community, helping out a program that is important to the university, as well as the students,” concluded Buswell.
